Love is Love!

I am so insanely honored and proud to be around and with the LGBTQ+ community. They are strong, courageous, beautiful, and damn do they know how to party. That being said, it was a year full of realizations as well. Realizations that there are so many in this world that can’t do what they love doing right now, for their safety. There are many who will live a life so full of fear and shame that something as simple as sexual orientation will be kept a dark and painful secret forever.

It wasn’t a shock to realize and sit with any of these things because there was a point in one’s life where a person feels he was doomed to the same fate. I feel grateful that people have started coming out and the experience isn’t equally violent as before, but some aren’t so lucky and that wrecks me.

So I guess if anyone out there reading this feels the weight of that secret or feels so terrified to embrace whatever their true self is, reach out. I’m here to talk and help in any way that I can. I’m here to tell you that you’re fierce and safe and wanted and loved and so so needed on this planet. It takes a village to live a free life, but know you’re not alone. It gets better and it gets easier, I know that in my soul.

To those who came before it was not okay to or rather was a taboo, those who spoke out, those who stood up, those who fought- thank you. Thank you for your voice, thank you for your sacrifice. Because of you, they are able to celebrate love and this collective history in an unbelievably diverse country.

Your Girl,
Dharti
